World Physical Therapy Day 2019 materials available in multiple languages
The materials for World Physical Therapy Day (WPTD) on 8 September are now available in a number of languages.

WCPT has arranged translations of all the materials into French and Spanish - these are now available on the WCPT website. Volunteers have kindly translated, or are translating, some of the materials into a number of languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Serbian, Slovenian.

WCPT announces Congress Programme Committee for Dubai in 2021
 
The World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) has announced the members of the Congress Programme Committee (CPC) for WCPT Congress 2021 in Dubai.
Chaired by Shane Patman, Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame in Australia, the committee brings extensive and diverse geographical, professional, research, clinical and academic expertise to WCPT’s flagship event.
WCPT President Emma Stokes said: ‘We are delighted to confirm the programme committee for the congress in 2021 in Dubai. Collectively, these people bring a wealth of experience and insights, which will translate into one of the most exciting programmes yet.’

New WCPT Constitution adopted
The new WCPT Constitution has been accepted and published on the Charity Commission website.
The Constitution received a unanimous vote of approval at the 19th WCPT General Meeting held in Geneva, 8-9 May 2019.
It sets out the rules that govern WCPT, including its membership organisational structure, and operating procedures. This includes the duties and responsibilities of the Executive Board, member organisations, regions, subgroups - as well as the organisation of the General Meeting, which is held every four years. The Constitution may only be amended or repealed by a resolution passed by at least 75% of all votes cast at a General Meeting.

WCPT seeks to recruit two consultants for projects in Tajikistan
WCPT is looking for two consultants to work on a project in Tajikistan to help develop a physical therapy entry-level curriculum and provide training to existing faculties for the implementation of the curriculum.

Digital practice White Paper and survey
WCPT and the International Network of Physiotherapy Regulatory Authorities (INPTRA) has established a joint Digital Physical Therapy Practice Task Force to develop a white paper addressing physical therapy practice and regulation in the digital age.

This white paper is an initial look at international digital practice and proposes a definition and purpose for digital physical therapy practice while exploring benefits, current limitations, regulatory concerns, guidelines and considerations for educational programs.

Chance to take part in paediatric physical therapy survey
The International Organization of Physical Therapists in Paediatrics (IOPTP), a recognised WCPT subgroup, is conducting a study with SCOOPPP to document the context and scope of the practices of physical therapists working with children worldwide.

This research project aims to identify current and innovative practices in paediatric physical therapy. Questions relate to the context and scope of practices in paediatric physical therapy at your workplace.

WCPT anuncia criação de Comitê para o Congresso em Dubai 2021




A Confederação Mundial de Fisioterapia (WCPT) anunciou os membros do Comitê do Programa Científico para o Congresso de 2021 em Dubai.

Presidido por Shane Patman, Professor Associado da Universidade de Notre Dame, na Austrália, o comitê traz amplo e diversificado conhecimento geográfico, profissional, de pesquisa, clínico e acadêmico para o principal evento da Confederação Mundial de Fisioterapia.

A presidente Emma Stokes, disse: "Estamos muito satisfeitos em confirmar o comitê do programa para o congresso em 2021 em Dubai. Coletivamente, essas pessoas trazem uma riqueza de experiências e insights, o que se traduzirá em um dos programas mais empolgantes de todos os tempos.

‘O comitê representa a Fisioterapia  como ela é como profissão: diversa, global e continuamente desenvolvendo e expandindo nosso conhecimento para servir as populações com as quais trabalhamos. O programa para 2021 irá resumir esses valores.
"Todos serão bem-vindos em Dubai e estamos ansiosos para um congresso positivo e bem sucedido."

Shane Patman disse: 'Tivemos o maior número de requisitos para fazer parte do CPC de Dubai 2021. Faleceu Ministro que assinou a Lei das 30 horas para Fisioterapeutas



Faleceu ontem, 18 de julho de 2019, em São Paulo, aos 80 anos de idade, o Ex-ministro do Trabalho Walter Barelli que assinou a Lei n.° 8.856, de 1° de março de 1994, que garantiu a jornada de trabalho de 30 horas para Fisioterapeutas e Terapeutas Ocupacionais brasileiros.
 
LEI Nº 8.856. DE 1º DE MARÇO DE 1994

Fixa a jornada de trabalho dos profissionais Fisioterapeuta e Terapeuta Ocupacional.

O PRESIDENTE DA REPÚBLICA

Faço saber que o Congresso Nacional decreta e eu sanciono a seguinte Lei:

Art 1º Os profissionais Fisioterapeuta e terapeuta Ocupacional ficarão sujeitos à prestação máxima de 30 horas semanais de trabalho.

Art 2º Esta lei entra em vigor na data de sua publicação.

Art 3º Revogam-se as disposições em contrário.

Brasília, 1º de março de 1994, 173º da independência e 106º da República.

Save the date for Dubai!
If you enjoyed WCPT Congress 2019, make a date to join us in Dubai for WCPT Congress 2021.

WCPT Congress 2021 will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 8-10 April 2021.

We'll be announcing the members of the Congress Programme Committee later this month and the committee will then start to consider the content and format of the programme.
Workshop report for ICRC-sponsored delegates to WCPT Congress 2019
More than 50 physical therapists working for the ICRC or in ICRC-supported rehabilitation centres in countries affected by conflict were sponsored by ICRC to attend WCPT Congress 2019.

After congress, 34 sponsored delegates from 19 countries took part in a workshop. ICRC staff Cornelia Anne Barth, Michaela Björk, Valentina Cemulini, and Cliona O’Sullivan provided a report from the workshop.

O papel do Fisioterapeuta na dor crônica é o tema do Dia Mundial da Fisioterapia



A dor crônica tem um peso significativo na saúde global - com a dor lombar causando mais incapacidade do que qualquer outra condição. O papel dos Fisioterapeutas ajudando as pessoas com dor crônica a assumir o controle de sua condição, aumentando sua atividade e melhorando sua qualidade de vida é o tema do Dia Mundial da Fisioterapia deste ano em 8 de setembro de 2019.

A dor crônica pode estar associada a uma ampla gama de condições, incluindo dor lombar, dor cervical e torácica, dor no ombro,dor de cabeça, câncer, fibromialgia, artrite reumatóide e osteoartrite.

Fisioterapeutas têm habilidades únicas para recomendar programas de exercícios específicos para ajudar a aliviar a dor crônica.

Os benefícios do uso de exercícios para controlar a dor crônica incluem:

• manutenção da flexibilidade e movimento
• melhorar a saúde cardiovascular
• construir e manter o tônus ​​muscular
• melhorar o humor e bem-estar geral
• ajudar a controlar a dor
• aumentar a confiança para participar de atividades
• retomar o controle de sua vida e reduzindo seu medo.

Segundo Emma Stokes, Presidente da WCPT:
"As pessoas que têm dor crônica nos dizem que pode ser difícil ficar ou permanecer ativo. Mas um Fisioterapeuta pode trabalhar com você para sugerir atividades ou um programa de tratamento adequado para você. Ele podem ajudá-lo a entender como a dor funciona, reduzir seus medos em relação à dor, orientá-lo sobre sua condição, encorajá-lo a participar da atividade física com segurança, aumentar sua confiança, ajudá-lo a permanecer ou retornar ao trabalho ou participar de atividades que lhe permitem viver a vida do jeito que você quiser. Converse com um Fisioterapeuta e descubra como ele pode ajudá-lo a aprender técnicas de autogerenciamento para controlar sua dor."

Chronic pain is the theme for World Physical Therapy Day 2019
Chronic pain is the theme for this year's World Physical Therapy Day (WPTD) on 8 September.
  • chronic pain is a significant global health burden
  • across the globe, low back pain causes more disability than any other condition
Physical therapy and physical therapists can help people with chronic pain develop the skills they need to manage and take control of their condition, increase their activity, and improve their quality of life.

Materials for WPTD2019 will be available, in a number of languages, shortly on WCPT's website.
WCPT speaks out at World Health Assembly
WCPT worked in conjunction with a number of international health care organisations to produce and deliver six statements at the recent World Health Assembly, WHA72.
WCPT was represented at WHA72 by President Emma Stokes, Chief Executive Officer Jonathon Kruger, and Professional Adviser Pablo Davo Cabra. WHA72 took place in Geneva, Switzerland, 20-28 May.

Jonathon Kruger said: ‘We need strong public healthcare systems, addressing the needs of the most vulnerable, supported and delivered by qualified, regulated, and effective healthcare workers. Physical therapy and physical therapists are key to the development and delivery of rehabilitation around the world. By working collaboratively, WCPT helps ensure the value and contribution of physical therapists is recognised and amplifies the role of our member organsiations.’

Colombian university is first in the Americas to receive WCPT accreditation
The Universidad del Rosario in Colombia has become the first academic institution in the Americas to receive accreditation from WCPT.

Although the university had received a certificate of quality from the Colombian government, it started the process to gain WCPT accreditation in 2017.

Israel Cruz Velandia, professor in the university's physical therapy programme, said: 'The WCPT model evaluates the quality of teaching-learning specifically in physiotherapy. Under this system the institutional regulatory framework, the academic staff, the development of the curriculum, the community of students and graduates, the progress in technology and infrastructure and the clinical training of students in physiotherapy are evaluated.'

Livestreaming congress sessions proves a success
For the first time, WCPT livestreamed 11 focused symposia sessions during WCPT Congress 2019.

Between 11-13 May, the livestream videos were played 11,733 times – many of the views were from people in Switzerland (4,926). And 6,807 views were from people in other parts of the world, indicating significant interest in these sessions from people who were not attending congress.

Since 13 May, the livestreams have been played a further 2,524 times. View the livestreams

Congress proceedings will be made available online and open access during July.
