2019 is most successful World Physical Therapy Day
This year’s World Physical Therapy Day (WPTD) and the theme of chronic pain has proved to be the most successful since the launch of the day in 1996.

Materials for the day were translated into 22 languages, compared with 12 languages in 2018. The toolkit produced for 2019 was downloaded more than any previous WPTD toolkit: 118,800 downloads, compared with 52,414 in 2018.

WCPT Annual Review 2018 now available
The WCPT Annual Review for 2018 is now available online.

You can download a copy of the Annual Review and find out about WCPT projects and activities, including:
  • membership engagement in Taiwan, South America and West Africa - and other countries and regions
  • development of a new WCPT Constitution
  • preparing for WCPT General Meeting and Congress 2019
  • signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Committee of the Red Cross
  • founding the Global Rehabilitation Alliance

WCPT Congress 2021 - call for focused symposia opens in November
The call for focused symposia at WCPT Congress 2021 will open on 18 November.  

This is an opportunity to be involved in one of the event's leading sessions, where cutting edge topics are explored by high profile speakers drawing large audiences. The submissions should address the topic from an international/diverse perspective by including presentations from a range of countries and preferably from three different WCPT regions.

The submission deadline for focused symposium proposals is 31 January 2020. Details will be added to the WCPT Congress website in November.
Stakeholders discuss provision of physical therapy education and training in Tajikistan
 
More than 30 people attended a three-day stakeholders’ meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, to discuss the development of entry-level physical therapy education and provide clinical bridge training for clinicians and staff at the Republican Medical College of Tajikistan.

The meeting was part of a project, Strengthening Rehabilitation Services in Health Systems (SRSHS), to establish physical therapy services and raise awareness of rehabilitation services to improve the quality of life for people in Tajikistan.

Research project focuses on ethical decision-making project
A research study is looking for physical therapists to take part in interviews about ethical decision-making.

Andrea Sturm, a PhD student from the Interuniversity of Graz, and Dr Caroline Fryer and Dr Ian Edwards, both from the University of South Australia, are collaborating on the project to investigate factors influencing ethical decision-making in physical therapy practice worldwide. The research team are all physical therapists, researchers and educators who are teaching professional ethics.

PEDro celebrates its 20th birthday!
For 20 years PEDro, a professional partner of WCPT, has been providing physical therapists around the world with easy access to high-quality clinical research so they can practice effectively and safely.

PEDro was conceived in 1999, just four years after the launch of the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, when evidence-based practice was in its infancy. Since then, PEDro has been used to answer over 24 million questions. These searches have been performed by physical therapists from 237 countries and territories. At the top of the league table of PEDro users is Brazil (23%), followed by the United States (9%), Spain (8%), Australia (7%), and France (5%).

WCPT South America Region Congress
The 6th Congress of the South America Region of WCPT will be held in Lima, Peru, 28-30 August 2020.
