|
World Physical Therapy Day 2018 is now just over one week away on 8th September. If you haven't yet planned your activities, here are some last minute ideas.

| Call for abstracts - last chance! |
There is just one week left to submit an abstract before the 6th September deadline.
Don't miss this opportunity to present to a global audience. Whether you
have research to present or an innovative service, practice, resource
or theory to showcase - WCPT encourages physical therapists from all
over the world, at every level of the profession, to submit an abstract
that:
- reports on the latest
research with original scientific data (this includes
systematic/narrative reviews and meta-analyses - submissions with
pending results and study protocols will not be accepted)
- addresses new and unique developments in practice, theory, education, management, policy and resources
- describes innovative ways in which established methods have been adapted to meet the changing needs of practice

| WCPT pays tribute to Brian Davey |
|
Earlier this month WCPT learned of the death of Brian Davey, who
served as the WCPT Executive Committee member for the Asia Western
Pacific Region (1982-88) and WCPT President (1988-91).
He trained as a physiotherapist in Dunedin, New Zealand, and graduated
in 1961. He joined the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) in
1975. He served as President of the NSW Branch of the APA in 1979-80,
and later served as National President of the APA in 1980-81. He was
awarded the Order of Australia in 1992 for services to physiotherapy.

| Six new physical therapy associations to join WCPT |
|
WCPT’s
Executive Board has approved six physical therapy associations as
provisional member organisations. These associations will be recommended
for admission to full membership at the next General Meeting, which is
due to take place in Geneva, 7th - 9th May 2019.
The admission of these six associations would bring the total number of
WCPT member organisations to 118, representing more than 450,000
physical therapists across the world.

| Free MOOC - Wheelchair Service Provision |
There are only a few days left to register for Physiopedia's free online course on Wheelchair Service Provision
starting on 3rd September. Requiring a time commitment of approximately
16 hours over 4 weeks, the course will be available in English and
French.
Run in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross
(ICRC) and Humanity & Inclusion (HI), the course aims to provide a
basic theoretical understanding of wheelchair mobility and to develop an
understanding of the theoretical principles, skills and knowledge
underlying the management skills and knowledge in the management of
wheelchair service delivery.

| New history of physical therapy website |
|
The International Physiotherapy History Association (IPHA) has launched a new magazine-style website at www.history.physio.
The IPHA was formed last year after the WCPT Congress in Cape Town. It
is a community of physical therapists and other people interested in
promoting the study of physiotherapy history at international, national
and local levels with a vision “to bring the history of physiotherapy
alive”. |
