World Physical Therapy Day is celebrated around the world! World Physical Therapy Day 2019 was a great success and, thanks to many volunteers, the materials were translated into 22 languages.   Thank you to all our member organisations and the many individual physical therapists, hospitals and health care centres who took part in the day and helped make World Physical Therapy Day 2019 a resounding success. We have already received a number of reports of the activities that took place to mark the day - take a look at how the day was celebrated around the world: www.wcpt.org/wptday19. Infographics on WCPT Congress 2019 now available Did you know that over 5,000 people from 131 countries took part in the WCPT Congress 2019?  We've produced a series of infographics with a summary of information about delegates, the scientific programme, and congress partners. The information includes: how many abstracts were presented top 10 topics in which delegates were most interested percentage of speakers who were women. Alberto Cairo receives UNHCR award Congratulations to Italian physical therapist Alberto Cairo - regional winner for Asia of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency annual Nansen Refugee Award. Previously, in 2007, Alberto Cairo was the first recipient of the WCPT Humanitarian Award for his exceptional care, compassion, dedication and personal commitment as demonstrated in his work in Kabul in Afghanistan. World Mental Health Day World Mental Health Day is marked every year on 10 October. The theme for this year’s day is suicide prevention: A day for “40 seconds of action”, in recognition that one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds. The Lancet launches new rheumatology journal The Lancet has launched a new specialty journal, The Lancet Rheumatology. Historian's talk focuses on massage and history of physiotherapy Kay Nias is a Medicine Galleries Research Fellow based at the Science Museum in London. She recently gave a talk on massage and the history of physiotherapy to the Society for the Social History of Medicine and Health at the University of Birmingham. In her talk, Kay explored some of the ways in which debates about massage, the status of touch and haptic knowledge stimulated and shaped the professionalisation of physical therapy in Britain in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. IPHA launches project to identify History's Greatest Physios To mark the anniversary of the commencement of the Society of Trained Masseuses in the UK, the International Physiotherapy History Association (IPHA) has launched a project to identify History's Greatest Physios. IPHA is calling for nominations from the global physical therapy community to help determine History’s Greatest Physios. Nominations will open on 1 October 2019 and close on 21 October 2019. 13 de outubro de 1969 – É a data da  promulgação do Decreto- Lei Nº. 938 que provê sobre as profissões de Fisioterapeuta e de Terapeuta Ocupacional, assinado pelos Ministros da Marinha de Guerra, Augusto Rademaker Grunewald; do Exército, Aurélio de Lira Tavares e da Aeronáutica Militar, Márcio de Souza melo; além dos Ministros da área civil Tarso Dutra e Leonel Miranda.

- Participar de qualquer atividade física é melhor do que não fazer absolutamente nada  

Isso está de acordo com as novas diretrizes de atividade física, publicadas pelos diretores médicos do Reino Unido em 7 de setembro, sugerindo que os adultos devem procurar ser fisicamente ativos todos os dias, a fim de manter uma boa saúde física e mental.

As diretrizes atualizadas levam em consideração novas evidências, que mostram que as pessoas podem obter benefícios de saúde com volumes, intensidades e frequências de atividade menores do que se pensava anteriormente.

Essas novas evidências são de particular relevância  para indivíduos com baixos níveis de aptidão física e adultos com deficiência.

Fisioterapeutas são fundamentais

O Presidente da Sociedade de Fisioterapeutas do Reino Unido, Alex MacKenzie, disse: 'Estamos muito satisfeitos em ver essa orientação publicada, especialmente porque há novos conselhos especificamente criados para grupos de pessoas que podem enfrentar algumas barreiras para serem fisicamente ativas, mas que se beneficiariam consideravelmente com isso'.

'Os Fisioterapeutas continuarão a desempenhar um papel fundamental ao fazer isso, aconselhando e apoiando as pessoas a atingirem seus objetivos de saúde e fitness, independentemente de sua situação ou condição'.
