Rehabilitation in emergencies The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a report aimed at emergency medical teams (EMTs) on the Minimum technical standards and recommendations for rehabilitation. This document, a first of its kind, clearly sets out the standards for rehabilitation and provides guidance on building or strengthening the capacity of EMTs. The document is available for download at: bit.ly/2kmUM0D. The document is the result of collaboration between a working group of rehabilitation experts convened by WHO and external consultations. WCPT was a reviewing organisation.

Healthcare Information For All As a supporter of Healthcare Information For All (HIFA), WCPT is encouraging organisations and individuals to lend their support and join the campaign. Changing lives one wheelchair at a time Read the blog of HVO (Health Volunteer Overseas) volunteer, and her story of delivering the Wheelchair Service Provision Training programme, as developed by WHO, in Bhutan. bit.ly/2jAqlU4   Working directly with wheelchair users , the training portion of the programme helped sixteen physiotherapists and physiotherapy technicians improve their skills to carry out appropriate wheelchair assessment, provision and wheelchair user training for children and adults. The skills they acquired will continue to aid patients for years to come. INTRUSISMO -  Acobertando-se sob a prática de exercícios físicos ou utilizando-se de recursos terapêuticos duvidosos, o intrusismo causa danos à imagem da Fisioterapia e dos Fisioterapeutas. Áreas como a utilização terapêutica externa da água, ou de métodos que, pela sua natureza são administrados também por outros profissionais (Pilates, Equitação Terapêutica), estão potencialmente vulneráveis; a prática inadequada realizada por leigos ou não habilitados produz incerteza, configurando ambiguidade de propósitos. Isto, para não dizer dos riscos à saúde. Vem a pergunta frequentemente formulada: O Fisioterapeuta ministra aulas de Pilates ou utiliza o método como processo terapêutico? No Brasil assim como em outros países  intrusos invadem os espaços da profissão, atuando livremente até que sejam denunciados por exercício ilegal de profissão regulamentada. 

CIDADANIA -  É qualidade ou estado de cidadão do indivíduo no gozo dos direitos civís e políticos de um Estado. Nesse contexto, o exercício da cidadania é restrito, limitado às fronteiras geopolíticas. Como considerar-se, então, Cidadão do Mundo? Para os Fisioterapeutas ficou mais fácil a partir da  introdução da hashtag #GlobalPT feita pela Confederação Mundial de Fisioterapia (WCPT)  nas redes sociais. Com essa palavra-chave, que não é apenas uma ferramenta para organizar conteúdos específicos no Twitter ou no Facebook, por exemplo, aproximam-se, opinam e trocam informações, profissionais de todo o mundo, ou melhor dizendo, das 112 Organizações Membros de Países ou Regiões da WCPT.

XENOFOBIA - Caracteriza-se pela aversão a pessoas ou coisas estrangeiras, entendendo-se que algumas  atitudes discriminatórias contra estrangeiros, minorias étnicas ou crenças religiosas, podem estar ligadas a conflitos de base ideológica, confronto de culturas ou até por motivações políticas e não especificamente por xenofobia. O Fisioterapeuta Cidadão do Mundo, tem o dever ético de repudiar as atitudes xenófobas e discriminatórias das quais tenha conhecimento, seja no seu próprio País ou em qualquer lugar do Planeta. #GlobalPT

Ontem 25 de janeiro de 2017 foi comemorado o Dia Nacional do Fisioterapeuta no Uruguai

En 1952 el Decano de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de la República, Dr. Mario Cassinoni, funda la Carrera de Técnico en Fisioterapia en el seno de la Escuela de Colaboradores del Médico. Nacemos de la necesidad de suministrar personal calificado para el Hospital de Clínicas. Es así que en 1950 a impulso del entonces Decano de Facultad de Medicina el Prof. Dr. Mario Cassinoni, se crea lo que en aquellos momentos se llamó "Sección de Auxiliares del Médico", que plasmó dos necesidades, por un lado la de formar respecto a las nuevas tecnologías y la otra de dar apoyo al Hospital modelo. A esa "Sección" se integran formalmente por primera vez la formación de diferentes Carreras que hasta ese momento no existían en nuestro país, muchas de las cuales son el núcleo fundamental de la Escuela Universitaria. Siendo una de las primeras Instituciones en América Latina dedicada a tales fines. El primer coordinador y Director fue el Dr. Eugenio Fulquet. Desde aquellos comienzos como Sección de Auxiliares del Médico hasta la hoy Escuela Universitaria de Tecnología Médica de la Facultad de Medicina, muchos avances se han producido teniendo en la actualidad la formación de Tecnólogos (tecno-tecnología y logos- pensar) y Licenciados en el Área de la Salud, reconocidos en todo el mundo. En 1955, los primeros egresados fundan la Asociación de Técnicos en Fisioterapia del Uruguay (ATFU). En 1985, se reforman los estatutos de la ATFU. En 1990 cambia la denominación de “Escuela de Tecnología Médica” a “Escuela Universitaria de Tecnología Médica”. Se instala por primera vez la Asamblea del Claustro de la Escuela Universitaria de Tecnología Médica. Esta misma designa a la Prof. Dra. Ft. Blanca Tasende Director, que tiene la relevancia de ser el primer Director egresado de nuestra Escuela. Se aprueba en el Parlamento la Ley Nº 16.614 de Profesionales Tecnólogos. En 1991 se reforma el Plan de Estudios dando como resultado el cambio del Título de grado por el de Licenciado en Fisioterapia y la denominación de la carrera por la de Carrera de Licenciado en Fisioterapia. De 1998 a 2008 se realiza la conversión de los Títulos de los Técnicos en Fisioterapia, homologándolos por distintos mecanismos previstos por la resolución del Consejo de la UDELAR al de Licenciado en Fisioterapia. Cursos em Cape Town oferecem oportunidades únicas de aprendizagem

O Congresso da Confederação Mundial de Fisioterapia WCPT a se realizar em Cape Town, África do Sul, inclui uma série de 13 cursos exclusivamente concebidos que complementam o programa científico e oferecem a oportunidade de aprender diretamente com especialistas.

Os cursos, que ocorrerão nos dias 1 e 5 de julho, são facultativos, mas abertos a todos os delegados presentes, pelo menos, um dia do Congresso. Cada curso inclui uma pequena taxa, com o calendário de cursos agora on-line.

A lista completa de cursos inclui temas como exercício e ergonomia, pediatria e saúde da mulher, com uma mistura de formatos de aprendizagem, além da oportunidade de conhecer outros delegados com um interesse especial nos respectivos campos.

No sábado, 1º de julho, Catherine Granger, da Austrália, e Morten Quist, da Dinamarca, lideram o curso sobre exercícios e câncer de pulmão, enquanto que o curso sobre exercícios para idosos examina em profundidade o exercício, o envelhecimento e a intensidade desses exercícios.

Cursos que ocorrem após o Congresso incluem uma introdução à prática colaborativa, com Joseph Day e Dennis Fell dos EUA, buscando desenvolver praticas interprofissionais entre  serviços médicos e de reabilitação, em países de baixa renda.

Enquanto isso, o curso de liderança e defesa da profissão visa apoiar educadores, acadêmicos e clínicos interessados ​​em desenvolver o seu potencial para promover a profissão.

Todos os 13 cursos visam oferecer oportunidades de aprendizagem e desenvolvimento para clínicos, pesquisadores, educadores e terapeutas em todas as etapas de suas carreiras, com foco em conhecimentos aplicados, extraídos das últimas pesquisas e avanços na prática profissional.

Três Fisioterapeutas na lista de honra do Ano Novo da Rainha da Inglaterra

Três Fisioterapeutas receberam o reconhecimento da Rainha na lista de honras do Ano Novo de 2017. Vicki Goodwin e Alun Morgan agora são Membros da Ordem do Império Britânico (MBE).

 
Vicki Goodwin é pesquisadora sênior da Universidade de Exeter. No ano passado a Dra. Goodwin liderou sua equipe de pesquisa e foi reconhecida por desenvolver um sistema clínico conhecido como "Acesso Direto"  no Derriford Hospital em Plymouth, parte do 'Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust'.




Alun Morgan é diretor assistente de terapias e ciências da saúde em Cardiff e especialista em lesões da medula espinhal, lesões cerebrais traumáticas, bem como em reabilitação de acidentes vasculares  cerebrais. 

 
 Anne Dickins foi outra Fisioterapeuta agraciada na lista de honras do Ano Novo da Rainha, como Membro da Ordem do Império Britânico (MBE). Em 2016 ela ganhou uma Medalha de Ouro nos Jogos Paraolímpicos do Rio de Janeiro, na categoria feminina 'Paracanoe K-1 200 metros' competindo na classe KL3.

Fisioterapia: Integralidade na Atenção à Saúde

Integralidade pressupõe o entendimento de vários sentidos, tratando-se entretanto de saúde, prevalece o conceito de atenção e promoção. Do ponto de vista da Fisioterapia abrange o desenvolver de ações preventivas primárias tais como promoção de saúde e proteção específica; ações secundárias incluindo o diagnóstico precoce e as ações terciárias, voltadas para a reabilitação do paciente (Neves; Aciole, 2011). 

Cabe ressaltar a Integralidade como eixo norteador e prioritário da política de saúde do Sistema Único de Saúde -SUS, colocando-a como 'uma questão de cidadania', cuja origem remonta ao Movimento da Reforma Sanitária Brasileira desencadeado e posto em prática durante as décadas de 1970 e 1980, materializando a saúde como direito do cidadão¹.

Ações preventivas primárias aplicam-se em caráter individual e coletivo, quando o Fisioterapeuta ministra palestras visando orientar a população estimulando atividades físicas e proporcionando atendimento fisioterapêutico se necessário.

No nível secundário, estando o paciente com seu organismo alterado na forma e na função,  o Fisioterapeuta utiliza-se do arsenal terapêutico disponível.

A fase de reabilitação tem por finalidade utilizar a Fisioterapia como processo terapêutico, visando a recuperação funcional do indivíduo, devolvendo-o ao mercado de trabalho quando possível, e principalmente ao convívio social.

Chinese universities receive WCPT education accreditation Physical therapy programmes at a further two Chinese universities received WCPT's education accreditation this summer at a ceremony in Kunming. Dr Margot Skinner met leaders from universities in Fujian and Shanghai, presenting them with certificates at a ceremony in Kunming, China.

WCPT Congress wins major international award The WCPT Congress has been recognised for excellence at the Singapore Tourism Awards, winning in the best association conference organiser category. International Day of Persons with Disabilities The International Day of Persons with Disabilities takes place every year on 3rd December. New ways to connect with WCPT subgroup and network WCPT network  for Occupational Health and Ergonomics is now on twitter @wcptOHE. The WCPT subgroup, the International Society for Electrophysical Agents in Physical Therapy (ISEAPT), has launched an electrophysical forum which aims to provide an interactive platform for questions, comments, discussion and opinion related to the use of electro physical modalities in physical therapy. It is supported by an internationally renowned expert panel and a broad sphere of clinicians, researchers, educators and students. Active participation is welcomed. www.electrophysicalforum.org/

Health Care in Danger project WCPT supports the Health Care in Danger (HCiD) project, an initiative of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement aimed at addressing the issue of violence against patients, health-care workers, facilities and vehicles, and ensuring safe access to and delivery of health care in armed conflict and other emergencies. In the past few weeks, several appalling attacks against health care have taken place. A hospital has been bombed in Aleppo, Syria, and suicide bombers have used explosive-laden ambulances to kill at least 21 people and wound many others in the Iraqi cities of Tikrit and Samarra. WCPT Regional summit For the very first time in WCPT's history, a meeting was held earlier this month between the Board of WCPT and the WCPT regional chairs. The gathering was future-oriented, successful and collaborative. Clarity was established around the roles of regional chairs and members of the board elected by the regions. The importance of WCPT regions’ activities and their alignment and support of WCPT’s new strategic plan was considered to be integral to the success of the plan. This was a new chapter in open communication and affirmed the close relationship between the regional chairs, the Board and WCPT staff.
