Welcome to the greatest show on physiotherapy earth
In a blaring burst of drumbeats, mass screaming – and even a quick audience mutual massage session – WCPT’s first ever Congress in Africa got off to an energetic start.

The opening ceremony, punctuated by performances by Drum Café and audience participation by more than 1000 physical therapists, set a vibrant tone for a landmark event.

What physical therapist professional entry level qualification is needed to meet the needs of populations?

Physical therapists from dozens of countries described their diverse perspectives at a major discussion session, and debated common ways forward.

Indaba sessions build on personal experience to bring solutions
Congress’s Indaba zone was busy and buzzing on the first day of congress, as delegates gave personal and impromptu contributions on subjects close to their heart.

Among the subjects discussed at the colourful African-themed meeting area was community based rehabilitation.

The gift of congress: bursaries that change lives
Nineteen physical therapists from 14 countries have received bursaries enabling them to attend the WCPT Congress in Cape Town – and the results could be career changing.

Among the recipients are Herné Rautenbach and Lizaan Scheepers, physiotherapy students at Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
