WCPT's Executive Board kick started its term this week with a meeting in London. The Board enthusiastically considered its mandate and began laying the ground work for its work together over the next four years. We were pleased to welcome members of the WCPT office and look forward to our partnership as we move forward.

World Physical Therapy Day: new materials for 2015 |
|
WCPT has launched materials to help physical therapists around the world mark this year’s World Physical Therapy Day on 8th September.
The message for 2015 is “Fulfilling potential”, emphasising physical therapists’ role in supporting people with long-term health conditions or disabilities achieve their goals, fulfil their potential and participate fully in society.
The World Physical Therapy Day toolkit for 2015 includes posters, a flyer and postcard with this year's message, as well as ideas, practical advice, resources on the contribution of physical therapists, stickers and t-shirt designs.

WCPT award recipients |
Individuals who have made outstanding contributions to physical therapy were recognised at the WCPT Awards Gala Dinner and WCPT Congress held in Singapore last month.
Norwegian physical therapist Kari Bø was awarded the Mildred Elson Award, the highest honour that WCPT can bestow, for her highly influential work in women’s health. Diana Hiscock, a physical therapist from the UK, was presented with the WCPT Humanitarian Service Award 2015 and the work of Padmani Mendis from Sri Lanka in the field of community based rehabilitation (CBR) was recognised with the WCPT Leadership in Rehabilitation Award.

World Health Statistics 2015 |
World Health Statistics 2015 contains WHO’s annual compilation of health-related data for its 194 Member States, and includes a summary of the progress made towards achieving the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and associated targets.
WHO presents World Health Statistics 2015 as an integral part of its ongoing efforts to provide enhanced access to comparable high quality statistics on core measures of population health and national health systems.

The following international events have issued a call for abstracts.
Global Alliance for Musculoskeletal Health of the Bone and Joint Decade (BJD): this summit will be held 8th - 9th October 2015 in Oslo, Norway. The Scientific Program Committee is currently seeking the submission of abstracts of original contributions on any topic related to injuries, diseases or complaints in the musculoskeletal system. The deadline for submission is 16th August 2015. www.bjd2015.com/
Australasia-Pacific Post-Polio Conference - Polio: Life Stage Matters: to be held in Sydney, Australia 20th - 22nd September 2016. The aim of this international conference is to exchange knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of the post-polio condition in different age groups to best preserve functioning throughout life. International Congress of Physiotherapy 2016: focusing on innovative technologies leading to the development of both assessment and rehabilitation tools the congress will be held on 30th January 2016. The scientific committee is seeking works highlighting multidisciplinary collaboration, originality, creativity and scientific innovation. Academic scholarships offered |
|
The Force and Motion Foundation academic scholarships are awarded annually to assist promising graduate students in fields related to multi-axis force measurement and testing. During the 2015–2016 academic year the Foundation will award US$10,000 scholarships to help defray the qualified expenses of three promising graduate students.
The Force and Motion Scholarship programme broadly encompasses research activities involving multi-axis measurement and multi-axis testing technologies. For specific application criteria go to: www.forceandmotion.org/. The deadline for applications is 11th January 2016.
