World Physical Therapy Day 2017

The theme for World Physical Therapy Day 2017 will be "Physical activity for life". Focus will be placed on the need for healthy adults to be physically active throughout their lifespan. Globally, physical inactivity is a major public health problem, with around 26% of adults aged 18 and over not active enough. Throughout the materials emphasis will be given to the role of physical therapists to keep people moving through advice and exercise programmes, along with how they support people of all ages to achieve activity goals. Look out for the toolkit to be launched next month.

New open access journal

The inaugural open access issue of The Lancet Planetary Health was published earlier this month. Listen to the podcast and take a look at the infographic to find out more about the journal. The Lancet Planetary Health is a journal that will join The Lancet Public Health and The Lancet Global Health, to provide a third pillar in an open-access programme covering the interplay between health and the determinants of health in our living and physical world. Physical therapists recognised in HVO Golden Apple Honorees

Two physical therapists have been selected to receive an HVO (Health Volunteers Overseas ) Golden Apple Award. As part of its World Health Day observances and in celebration of World Health Worker Week, HVO recognises the extraordinary contributions of HVO members, volunteers and supporters. Each individual honoured with this award has demonstrated a commitment to HVO’s mission to improve global health through the education, training, and professional development of the health workforce in resource-scarce countries. Many congratulations to Judith Hembree and Silvia Plattner who have both made significant contributions to HVO’s project at Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) in Haiti. WCPT's professional partner, Physiopedia, is looking to share its data in the public domain to enable the global physiotherapy profession to learn and develop from it. WCPT-AWP & PTAT Congress 2017

The congress theme is “Moving towards health, longevity, and sustainability". It offers an opportunity for physical therapists in the Asia Western Pacific Region to present their work and share experiences with peers to enhance collaborations in the region and worldwide.
