Chronic pain is the theme for World Physical Therapy Day 2019
Chronic pain is the theme for this year's World Physical Therapy Day (WPTD) on 8 September.
  • chronic pain is a significant global health burden
  • across the globe, low back pain causes more disability than any other condition
Physical therapy and physical therapists can help people with chronic pain develop the skills they need to manage and take control of their condition, increase their activity, and improve their quality of life.

Materials for WPTD2019 will be available, in a number of languages, shortly on WCPT's website.

Jonathon Kruger said: ‘We need strong public healthcare systems, addressing the needs of the most vulnerable, supported and delivered by qualified, regulated, and effective healthcare workers. Colombian university is first in the Americas to receive WCPT accreditation
The Universidad del Rosario in Colombia has become the first academic institution in the Americas to receive accreditation from WCPT.

Although the university had received a certificate of quality from the Colombian government, it started the process to gain WCPT accreditation in 2017.

Israel Cruz Velandia, professor in the university's physical therapy programme, said: 'The WCPT model evaluates the quality of teaching-learning specifically in physiotherapy. Under this system the institutional regulatory framework, the academic staff, the development of the curriculum, the community of students and graduates, the progress in technology and infrastructure and the clinical training of students in physiotherapy are evaluated.'
