World Physical Therapy Day - thank you! Thank you to all our member organisations and the many individual physical therapists and health care centres who took part in the day and helped make World Physical Therapy Day 2018 a resounding success! #worldptday The #WorldPTDay hashtag gathered momentum around the globe generating enormous traffic on social media - on Twitter 7.6 million impressions were made with over 4,500 tweets. The hour long physiotalk tweetchat held on 3rd September for World Physical Therapy Day also achieved a reach of 1.4 million people. For the first time, WCPT published animation videos promoting this year's campaign message - these proved enormously popular with both the English and Spanish versions each achieving a reach of 300,000 people.

Candidates for WCPT President and Vice President announced The candidates for election to the positions of President and Vice President have been announced as follows: Candidates for President Alain Belanger  Emma K. Stokes Candidates for Vice President Michel D. Landry Melissa Locke John Xerri de Caro  The elections will take place at the General Meeting, 8-9 May 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland. Physical therapy equipment donation This month WCPT has developed an information note to provide guidance for recipients and donors to help find the best possible solution for the donation of physical therapy equipment. In some countries nearly 80% of health care equipment is donated or funded by international donors. But, according to WHO a large proportion (up to 70% in sub-Saharan Africa) of donated equipment lies idle because of a disconnect between recipients and donors around need. WCPT has developed the information note in response to this with input from a range of stakeholders including ADAPT, ICRC and WHO. Find out more: http://bit.ly/2OiJyfj

Clinical visits   Congress courses Are you registering to attend the whole congress? If so, why not make the most of your registration and add a clinical visit - a unique opportunity to see how physical therapy is practised in Switzerland. physioswiss has arranged clinical visits for congress delegates to a range of public and private physical therapy facilities, across a wide area of interests. Most clinical visits will be supported in English and French and some will offer additional language support. Courses offer a focus on applied knowledge and skills, giving delegates the chance to explore issues in depth, gain practical experience, and learn directly from experts via a range of learning formats. Call for abstracts is closed   Visas The deadline for the call for abstracts has now passed. WCPT is delighted to announce almost 2,500 abstracts have been submitted. All abstract submitters will be notified of the outcome of the review process by 21st December 2018.    WCPT is encouraging all delegates to review travel visa requirements and, if necessary, start making visa applications as soon as possible. You can find information about visa requirements for travel to Switzerland, including letters of invitation to download in support of an application, on the congress website www.wcpt.org/wcpt2019/visitors/visas

História da Fisioterapia - Visita do Dr. Ruy Gallart de Menezes ao CREFITO-1

 No início dos anos 1980 o CREFITO-1 recebeu a visita do Presidente do CREFITO-2 Dr. Ruy Gallart de menezes. A foto histórica registra  os dois presidentes, Ruy Gallart (primeiro a esquerda) e Geraldo Barbosa (CREFITO-1) na entrada  principal da sede da autarquia em Recife.

Em 28 de agosto de 2018 a Dra. Regina Figueirôa Presidente do CREFITO-2 inaugurou o Espaço Memória, localizado no Espaço Cultural Dr. Ruy Gallart de Menezes situado na Rua Aguiar, 44, Tijuca - Rio de Janeiro. Participantes do Dia Mundial da Fisioterapia no TWITTER

A presença estrangeira na formação de Fisioterapeutas brasileiros

Grupo de participantes do Curso de Atualização em Fisioterapia promovido pela Organização Pan-americana de Saúde, com apoio do Centro De Reabilitação Sarah Kubitschek (Atual Rede SARAH)  outubro/dezembro de 1973 em Brasília DF, para Fisioterapeutas brasileiros da Região Nordeste do País, ministrado pela Fisioterapeuta sueca Karin Lundborg, consultora da Organização Mundial de Saúde. Na foto a Dra. Karin é a primeira sentada a esquerda. 

Cabe salientar que a passagem da Dra. Karin pelo Brasil ocorreu inicialmente durante a implantação do Curso de Fisioterapia do Instituto Nacional de Reabilitação INAR, na Universidade de São Paulo USP, criado oficialmente em 1958, quando foi designada pela Organização Mundial de Saúde para ministrar aulas específicas de Fisioterapia (Vieira, Risomar da Silva. Institucionalização da Fisioterapia - um olhar sobre o processo histórico nos cenários internacional, brasileiro e paraibano. João Pessoa: Editora Universitária da UFPB, 2012 -  páginas 71/72).

Foto de novembro de 1973. Monumento ao fundador de Brasília Presidente Juscelino Kubitscheck - erguido no Jardim do Catetinho - um edifício de madeira onde o Presidente e seus Assessores trabalhavam durante a construção da cidade, cuja inauguração ocorreu em 1960.

- Novas associações aprovadas pela Confederação Mundial de Fisioterapia

A Diretoria da Confederação Mundial de Fisioterapia WCPT aprovou seis novas associações de Fisioterapia como organizações membros provisórios. Estas associações serão recomendadas para a admissão como membro pleno na próxima Assembleia Geral, que deverá ter lugar em Genebra, de 7 a 9 maio de 2019. 

- Association Ivoirienne des Masseurs-Kinésithérapeutes 

- Association des Kinesitherapeutes du Mali

- Association Sénégalaise des Kinesithérapeutes Rééducateurs

- Chamber of Physiotherapists of Kosovo

- Fédération Nationale des Kinesitherapeutes Physiothérapeutes do Maroc

- Société Haïtienne de Physiothérapie

A admissão destas seis associações elevará o número total de organizações membros da WCPT para 118, representando mais de 450.000 Fisioterapeutas em todo o mundo.

- Organização Mundial de Saúde busca fortalecer recursos humanos em Reabilitação

O Programa de Reabilitação da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) está solicitando que organizações, associações e instituições compartilhem suas estruturas de competência relacionadas à reabilitação. As estruturas de competências compartilhadas ajudarão a OMS a desenvolver recursos para apoiar os países que buscam fortalecer seus recursos humanos para a reabilitação.

O prazo para o compartilhamento de estruturas de competências é 30 de setembro de 2018. Quaisquer dúvidas sobre o projeto ou estruturas de competências concluídas devem ser enviadas para rehabilitation@who.int 

- HISTORY.PHYSIO um novo site com estilo de Revista


 A Associação Internacional de História da Fisioterapia lançou um novo site com estilo de revista em  www.history.physio.

A entidade foi criada no ano passado após o Congresso da Confederação Mundial de Fisioterapia (WCPT) na Cidade do Cabo. É uma comunidade de Fisioterapeutas e outras pessoas interessadas em promover o estudo da história da Fisioterapia nos níveis internacional, nacional e local com uma visão “para trazer a história da Fisioterapia viva”.

- Fisioterapia em terceiro lugar na oferta de empregos no Reino Unido

A concorrência de empregos para recém-formados nunca foi tão acirrada no Reino Unido. Com taxas de matricula de £ 9.250 por ano na maioria das universidades e custo de vida que representam sacrifícios financeiros para muitos, os estudantes procuram com mais frequência cursos de graduação que lhes ofereçam a melhor relação custo-benefício no atual mercado de trabalho.

Para ajudar a decidir, o Complete University Guide (CUG) elaborou uma lista dos 10 principais cursos a ser escolhidos para obter um emprego. As classificações usam os dados mais recentes da Agência de Estatísticas do Ensino Superior do Reino Unido (HESA), para o período 2015-16. Nessa lista a Fisioterapia está em terceiro lugar.

Uma Licenciatura em Fisioterapia pode levar a uma carreira gratificante dentro do Sistema de Saúde (NHS) ou do setor privado. E os recém-formados não estavam com falta de ofertas de emprego, ao que parece, com 94% encontrando emprego em seis seis meses após a conclusão do curso.

Call for abstracts - last chance! There are just three days left to submit an abstract before the 6th September deadline. This is your opportunity to present to a global audience. Whether you have research to present or an innovative service, practice, resource or theory to showcase - WCPT encourages physical therapists from all over the world, at every level of the profession, to submit an abstract. The Congress Programme Committee (CPC) is looking for abstracts that: report on the latest research with original scientific data (this includes systematic/narrative reviews and meta-analyses, submissions with pending results and study protocols will not be accepted) address new and unique developments in practice, theory, education, management, policy and resources describe innovative ways in which established methods have been adapted to meet the changing needs of practice Submit your abstract before the deadline: www.wcpt.org/wcpt2019/programme/abstracts Abstracts will be delivered as platform or poster presentations, with both considered by the CPC to be of equal standing and judged by the same criteria. You can indicate your preferred format when submitting, but inevitably there is limited space for platform presentations in the programme and many more posters can be accommodated. The decision of what format to assign to any abstract rests with the CPC.
