Focused symposia announced
The first key sessions in the congress programme have been announced.

The congress programme includes 17 focused symposia featuring over 60 presenters from 31 countries/territories, including 10 countries/territories that have not been represented at a focused symposium for at least the past three congresses.

Focused symposia are core sessions where cutting edge relevant topics will be explored from an international and diverse perspective. Presenters will create insightful and engaging learning experiences that ultimately inform, inspire, involve and empower participants.

Read the press release with details of the newly announced symposia and the presenters.

Jackie Whittaker, chair of World Physiotherapy’s congress programme committee (CPC), said: “We were incredibly pleased with the breadth and quality of the many proposals we received. The focused symposia to be presented in Dubai combine truly global perspectives with content that we believe represents professional challenges that physiotherapists around the world are facing today. The topics cover a range of timely topics, such as pain management, services for refugees and migrants, health economics, and the role of technology, and are relevant to clinicians, managers, educators and researchers.”

Strategic plan for 2022 and beyond launched

World Physiotherapy’s strategic plan for 2022 and beyond focuses on building a thriving and engaged global physiotherapy profession, supporting physiotherapists and advocating for people, regardless of location, to have access to physiotherapy services.

The plan has been developed after a series of consultations, surveys, and focus groups with the board, member organisations, regions, subgroups, and the staff leadership group. During this process, World Physiotherapy’s purpose and vision were reviewed and revised, and several key themes emerged, which have been grouped into three strategic pillars, underpinned by four core values.

Emma Stokes, World Physiotherapy president, said: “We’re very excited to launch our new strategic plan. We have revised our vision and present our values clearly. The strategic pillars that will inform our work build on our previous strategy and set us up for a world emerging from a global pandemic and facing many challenges.

“It has been collaboratively developed through consultation with our community and I believe it represents a contemporary approach that remains true to the value and ambitions of our founding member organisations."

The strategic plan is available as an infographic in:

World Physiotherapy accredits two physiotherapy entry level education programmes

The World Physiotherapy accreditation committee agreed at its meeting in July to grant full accreditation to two physiotherapy entry level education programmes, one in Madrid, Spain, and one in Istanbul, Turkey.

The accreditation of the programmes at the European University of Madrid, Spain, and Yeditepe University, Turkey, brings the total number of programmes accredited by World Physiotherapy to 18.

The World Physiotherapy accreditation service resumed full activity earlier this year, undertaking site visits in March/April, after two years of limited activity due to the impact of travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Four more site visits are expected to take place during 2022 in three different World Physiotherapy regions.
