World Physical Therapy Day 2017 celebrated around the world |
Once again, World Physical Therapy Day
has been a massive success with celebrations taking place around the
world and toolkit materials being translated into 11 languages.
Thank you to all WCPT member organisations and physical therapists who
have sent in their reports about activities held to celebrate the day.
This year's "Physical Activity for Life" message was enthusiastically
taken up around the world and used as the focus of the day.
Reports showing how the day was celebrated are being added to: www.wcpt.org/wptday17
If you have not yet submitted your report please email mlockner@wcpt.org |

Health workers are #NotATarget |
|
Every
day in conflict zones, doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers and
first-aiders are coming under attack while trying to save lives. They
are threatened, arrested or beaten, their hospitals looted or bombed.
Some are unable to work because medical supplies can't get through. Some
are forced to flee for their lives. Some are even killed.
In response to this, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
and Red Crescent Movement have set up the Health Care in Danger
initiative. Earlier this month, a video was launched with the message “We should not accept it anywhere”.
Help to raise awareness of this campaign - share the video and tell everyone that Health Workers are #NotATarget http://bit.ly/2wSht6Z
WCPT would like to take this opportunity to remember and pay tribute to
physical therapist, Lorena Enebral Pérez, an amputee rehabilitation
specialist who was recently shot and killed by a patient in
Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan |

Global Burden of Disease |
The
Lancet has published a series of open access articles on the Global
Burden of Disease Study (GBD) with the latest estimates for health
trends worldwide, providing data on more than 330 diseases, causes of
death, and injuries : http://thelancet.com/gbd.
The GBD is the most comprehensive worldwide observational
epidemiological study to date. It describes mortality and morbidity from
major diseases, injuries and risk factors to health at global, national
and regional levels. Examining trends from 1990 to the present and
making comparisons across populations enables understanding of the
changing health challenges facing people across the world in the 21st
century.

Handicap International (Vietnam) / USAID project |
|
Following the successful implementation of the SUDA project, WCPT is once again partnering with Handicap International in a USAID funded project on advancing medical care and rehabilitation education in Vietnam.
WCPT sent a team to Vietnam earlier this month to carry out a Gap
analysis. The physical therapy entry level education programmes in three
universities were examined.
Vietnam currently has an approximate population of 95 million, served by approximately 4,000 physical therapists. |
